Goku Raku Ramen - Ultimate Ramen in Penang!

For those who reside in KL, you would have probably known about Goku Raku Ramen as there are 2 branches in Mid Valley Mall and Paradigm Mall. For those in Penang, this is a new Ramen joint in town, located at our new hot spot - Gurney Paragon!

Let's get started with the food ramen journey!

Boyfie and I were really hungry so we ordered both Ramen and rice! (OMG~~!! CARBO FATNESSSS!! -__-''' never mind lah! tomorrow only 'pak sui' lol~ I think that's what most females say when it comes to good food? hohoho!)

Anyway! Lets let the pictures tell the story!

The entrance of Goku Raku Ramen restaurant @ Gurney Paragon.
The sitting area. Cutely decorated with lush greens.
Bar counter sitting, with an open kitchen concept.
OK lah!  Chill lah! Here comes the FOOD yo!
Kobuta Meshi
Taste: 9/10
Price: RM2.90
Firstly served was the 'Kobuta Meshi'. It is shredded pork on rice. Taste not bad at all! Yes, we only paid RM2.90 for that! Promo is going on now but I am not sure when it ends so maybe you can try your luck ;) Anyway, the mixed fragrance of pork and japanese rice definitely make it a very well combination.

Gyoza
Taste: 8.5/10
Price: RM7.90
Next up was 'Gyoza' - Japanese dumplings. This one tastes good too! Nothing much about it but yea, tastes reasonably good :)

Ultimate Tonkotsu Ramen (Small)
Taste: 9.5/10
Price: RM16.90
Here comes the peak of this show blog post! Goku Raku's Signature Ultimate Tonkotsu (pork) Ramen! You can choose between 2 sizes for the ramen but the waitress told us the amount of noodles difference is just 50 grams and the price difference is about RM5+ (so you judge it yourself).
Like its name, it is ULTIMATE! With the super-thick and delicious broth, it is irresistible! Everything in this bowl of ramen is excellent (especially the soft-boiled egg!) if not perfect. At least Goku Raku is the place with the best ramen I've ever had in Malaysia, so far. However, as the broth is super thick (and i really mean, super thick), the taste is kinda overwhelming if you just drink the soup alone. I mean, you can... but you cannot have it too much otherwise you might feel too much of it. The broth and ramen are best to consume together! :)

Ah! I nearly forgot about the drinks...

Yuzu Honey & Hot Ocha
Price: RM6.90 & RM2.90
Out of the norm, boyfie ordered the Yuzu (japanese citrus) w honey to try. Taste is just nice with a hint of tangy-ness. I think you don't need me to describe more of a japanese green tea ey? heehee :)

Now, dessert time!

Annin Tofu
Taste: 8.5/10
Price: RM6.90
As we were already bloated by then, we ordered only one dessert to share. Annin Tofu (Almond cream pudding) caught our attention. I like this dessert a lot! It is perfectly chilled, tastes good, not too sweet, texture is just nice.

Total bill for that night, after service charge (10%) and government tax (6%) comes to RM74.45 for 2 pax. Not too bad considered we have ordered fairly much food. lol~

Overall, I would recommend this place if you are looking for authentic japanese ramen :)

Overall Rating
Taste: 9/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Value for Money: 8/10
Service: 8/10

UPDATED ON 20th MARCH 2013!!!

Hello readers! I just went to Goku Raku Ramen last night and I found some changes that has been made in the restaurant and I would like to share them with you all! :)

Basically the menu has been revised and it has more selection of food now.

Thicker menu compared to last time with more food selection!
Now they have Ramen of the Month! For 'March' ramen it is 'Singapore Pako Ramen'.

Introduction of the chefs and their specialties

Let me show you some of their new dishes which I ordered last night!
One of them is Beauty Set.

Women targeted meal!
Why is it called a beauty set? Because collagen balls come together in this set!
RM25.90
Something extra for knowledge :P
Benefits of Collagen:
  • Healthy Skin: Collagen acts like a cushion for the skin, helping it look strong, healthy, and silky. It improves the skin’s elasticity, which provides finesse, beauty, and freshness.
  • Weight Loss: Collagen has the advantage that it is a pure protein without carbohydrates or fats and, as a plus, it has a high calcium concentration. As a nutritional supplement, collagen is a popular tool for weight loss.
  • Blood Supply: Collagen strengthens the blood vessels, the intestines, and the uterus; this activity helps protect against various blood pressure problems.
  • Metabolism: Because the collagen helps the body to metabolize fats, it plays an important role in weight loss and muscle development.

Sounds like some magical supplement for women out there huh? I doubt any ordinary female would resist the power of collagen! So for someone who is very beauty conscious like me, I wouldn't miss this out! Hohoho :P

'Beauty' salad.
Consist of fresh vegetables, capsicums and some deep fried batter you see on top of the salad, served with sesame sauce (I like the sauce!)
'Beauty' Ramen.
It is the small Ultimate Tonkatsu Ramen. Taste is still as good!
Here comes the highlight of the set meal - Collagen balls.
Right is Chilli paste to be added to the soup to your liking.
This is how we eat it. Dissolve the collagen balls into the ramen soup. Boyfriend joked and said: Why not you eat the whole ball alone so you absorb every bit of it (lol). I have no comment on that guys because I haven't tried eating that way haha!
'Beauty' Dessert - Cheesecake
I like the cheesecake as the texture is smooth and sweetness is just nice. Very delightful dessert.
As for the boyfriend, ...

Five Star Ramen
This is a bomb! Meaty, flavourful and filling! Its taste is slightly stronger than the ultimate ramen. Worth trying!
RM25.90
Pan Fried Gyoza
Looks different from the one I had last time ey? I think they sorta reformulated the gyoza recipe to make it look more special!
RM8.90
Tender Tonkatsu (Deep fried pork cutlet)
Well, I reckon the meat is not juicy enough and the chef had probably fried it for a tad too long so the meat was a bit dried out. However, the batter crumb was quite good - crispy and tasty.
RM16.90
This dish has an option to come with a set too (includes rice and miso soup)
By then we were already full and we nearly forgot there was a dessert waiting for us! -__-'''

Creme Brûlée - Another new item in the menu
My favourite dessert! This one is not bad. The cream is nice with soft texture but the sugar was a bit  over burnt hence it tasted a little bitter.
There are more varieties of new food in the revised menu but of course we could not try them all in one night! Why not come explore their new food yourself? :)

Love,

LamLam - XOXO <3
